Artist Profile
Alexandra Belforti is a very talented young artist. She was
born in the United States, and when she was six months old her
family moved to Italy and her love for art grew and flourished as
she grew up in the land of the masters. She has been drawing since
she was three years old and with encouragement from her family.
Her love of "Star Wars", fantasy novels and stories
involving science fiction brought her back to the states at the
age of 18 to pursue her passion for art. She especially wanted to
become a concept artist and illustrator in her favorite area of
interest science fiction and fantasy character development.
Alex graduated from the Art Center College of Design in 2000
with a BA in fine arts. During her studies and after graduation
she had a chance to work with some of her hero's, such as Michael
Butkus, Mike Westmore and Drew Struzan who mentored her, in the
fine art of movie character design. As she told me, "I love
fanaticizing about other worlds, peoples and places and these are
the premier illustrators and designer in my mind, for the type of
art I love drawing and I wanted to learn from the best… so I
pursued my desires and them, so I could become a better artist in
what I love to draw."
Alex's favorite media is acrylic and she paints using both
airbrush and conventional tools to create her pieces of science
fiction and fantasy art. She has worked as a freelance artist
since graduation, doing work for such companies as Disney
Imagineering Studios, Dark Horse Publishing, Clearvision and
others and has worked on such projects as "Harry Potter and
the Sorceress Stone", "The Relic" and comic art for
"Amen" and "Bushido Witchblade". Alex has won
numerous awards for her work and is currently working on
illustrations for the up coming novel "Tale of the Genji"
a comic book adaptation of "Star Wars, I Jedi" that she
hopes will be picked up by Dark Horse Publishing.
