bob marshall

Artist Profile

Bob was trained as an engineer, not an artist, and has supported himself in this field most of his life, but his lifelong fascination with mountains and forests precipitated his beginnings as a photographer.

Bob wanted to share with others the love he felt for the wilderness, particularly mountains, and began to experiment with photographs with that end in mind. He became an activist along the way, playing a major role in the preservation of San Gorgonio Wilderness from development. He continued to improve his photographic technique, and attended a week-long workshop in Yosemite Valley with Ansel Adams in 1964.

Bob's purpose in photographing the wilderness is to give the viewer a sense of the place, spiritually as well as visually. The development of digital photographic technology has enabled him to present the photographs in ways that even the casual viewer can appreciate, and without the sometimes prohibitive cash outlay that would be required of both viewer and artist.

Bob exhibits with the Pomona Valley Art Association and with the Shameless Self-Promoters in the San Gabriel Valley area, and his work is on view continuously on his website, www.wildlandscenes.com. Bob's dearest hope is that his work will inspire viewers to experience the wilderness for themselves and understand at least some of the feeling he himself has for its majesty and beauty.
